We left Robinson River and crossed the border into Queensland, the gravel stopped and the bitumen began, initially we thought QLD spent more money on roads that NT but the bitumen did not last long.
We drove to Hells Gate Roadhouse, this was a planned overnight stop but after a micro-waved pie for lunch we decided that there was nothing worth staying for and we drove on to Burketown.
When we arrived at Burketown the inn (caravan park) was full. One of the local shop owners suggested we could camp down by the boat ramp, 7km out of town. The town was full because all of the “free campers” had come in from the fringes to get power or go to the pub to watch the State of Origin match tonight and partly because they have a lot of regulars who migrate up here for the winter. There was little to see in Burketown so a free overnight camp was ideal.
